Snow. It's here a day early.

Teachers love snow days.  Okay, maybe not ALL teachers, but the ones who are good at being flexible, love the idea of an unscheduled day at home with no expectations of having to go out.  The only thing to worry about it shoveling, which is a small price to pay for many hours of free time.

The best part of a snow day in December is that most of us have random holiday chores to accomplish.  How many years do I write out Christmas cards on a snow day or finally get around to doing my dishes?

So, today is a Sunday and while I had planned to be at church, singing, I am home, listening to Julie Andrews singing Christmas songs (best birthday gift ever, thanks Mom and Dad!) and looking at which part of my To Do list to tackle first.

Oh, as a side note, school had it's Talent Shows this week and two different acts used the song Hallejuiah by  Leonard Cohen.  So, I just looked it up and listened to a couple versions.   Beautiful!

Too Many Options

I have an entire bookshelf FULL (okay, okay, overflowing) with craft stuff.   Books of ideas, Rubbermaid containers of ribbon, rubber stamps, beads, paint, brushes, stickers, magnets, water color paper, canvases, tracing paper.  You name it, and I most likely have it.

Now, I'm finding I might have some time to use all these goodies and I don't know where to start!

A Poem For You

Oh Fall,
    You are full of colors
        And fulfillment.
           We harvest peace
              And sate our hunger.

Trickster!

So, I've been off the blogging bandwagon for a while and suddenly I find myself with a few spare moments this morning.  Why not blog?!

There is a fundraiser tonight for the Duluth Public Library.  It's at Fitger's.   It's a book reading/signing/silent auction/appetizer event.  The author of Trickster's Point, William Kent Krueger, will be reading a portion of his novel and signing books!   Tickets are $20 and it looks like it's going to be a great time!

See you there?

Jam-Packed

This is going to be a jam-packed day!   There is the regular school stuff, detention, and then I'm babysitting for a friend I've known since third grade!  Then, buzz back to school for my Italian class and then buzz home to watch the penultimate Castle episode of the season.   All good stuff!

Massage

I got a massage after school today at a new place.  My regular massage therapist friend Kristi opened her own place!  It's called Elite Massage and it's located in the old Board of Trade building on 1st Street.

When I get massages, it's really a torture session of her trying to dig into the knots to release them and me trying not to yell for her to stop.  Sure, I could get a relaxing massage, but my back is so tight ALL THE TIME, that it needs a little kneading.

Poetry

I might write a poem.  I'm mulling it about in my head.  It would be a birthday poem for a friend.  In junior high we had to write a slew of poems for English class.  Wonder if I still have them somewhere.  Probably.  I get my pack-ratness from my father.  And my sentimentality.

Weird

Yesterday I blogged that I was sluggish and then got up and did a bunch of stuff before church.   When I got home after running errands, going to lunch, and going to to a play, I got MORE stuff done.  It was great!   I wonder how long I can keep it up?

Sluggish

My April has been pretty slow, almost sluggish.  I've been sleeping too much the past week and I don't know why.  It's not like I've had grueling days at work.  Maybe it's the weather?  Maybe I need some extra vitamin I'm not getting or I need to haul my keister to the the gym.  It's probably the last bit.  Uff.   And scheduling is tough this week.  I might not make it there until Wednesday.  Slug. Slug. Slug.

Take a Hint

Okay, okay.  I've been away for a while, at least from my blog.  I feel like things are too boring to even write about them most days.  Hmmm... what did I do?  Work. Read books.  Watched movies.  However, I did try online dating for a brief spell (again).   See, in order to delete your account, you have to log in to it and I forgot my password (it had been a while).  Sooooo... in order to change your password and get back in, you have to stay "on" for a week and can't just delete it.  Uff.   Well, that led to me chatting with a few men, none of them panning out AT ALL.   Sheesh.

Online dating just isn't for me.  I'm too nerdy or judgmental or something.  I'm apparently very attractive to the 50-60 set, which is not part of my official "age range" on the site, but the men seem to ignore that.  Oy.

Any way, it's nice to be done with that site.  Now, I have one more that I haven't used in years but they're still sending me "matches."  So, I might have to log in again to delete that account.  Trying to date is a drag.

Good movies I've seen lately:  Hunger Games.  My Week With Marilyn.  Like Crazy.

Intense

Why do I keep watching movies that are so depressing and intense?  Is it some "I'll save it until Spring Break when I'm relaxed" thing?  Really, it's weird.  I've watched A Dangerous Method, Like Crazy (that wasn't soo depressing), Young Adult, The Whistleblower, and one more I can't remember.  Good thing I'm sprinkling in Downton Abbey and Scarecrow & Mrs. King.  Uff.

Any light-hearted movie suggestions?

Movies!!!

I've seen a lot of great (and a couple not-so-great) movies lately and since I haven't blogged in almost two weeks (sorry), I thought it was time!

Great:
Hunger Games
Hugo
The Princess and the Frog

Not-So-Great:
Young Adult

Young Adult wasn't soooo bad that it made me stop it in the middle, which I do some times, but it was just depressing and no one learned any lessons in the end, "after all that!".   Soooooo... skip it if you can.

Issues

A few weeks ago, I started getting hives.   I've had them before, usually in connection to some medication that I discovered I could add to my allergies list.  This time, I didn't do anything different except drink some new tea or wear a new watch.  After a week of Waldryl, I thought maybe it was my temporary crown.

The hives went away last Sunday and came rushing back Monday morning!  Dumb!  I treated them for a while and then they didn't bug me any more until they REALLY bugged me and my eyeball started bulging.  No good!   So, I spent Friday afternoon at Urgent Care/ the ER.  Yep, joyful.  Sometimes, I'll do anything to get out of a meeting.

Turns out I have seasonal allergies and I'm "at the right age" to get them every year now.  Oh joy.  At least my I didn't explode.

Get Your Act Together

Now that I've kind of adjusted to Daylight Savings Time, it's necessary for me to get organized and stop being a lazy bum around the house and even around my classroom.  Posters that constantly want to fall off the wall are now pinned up.  Recycling bins are emptied.  Rugs are vacuumed.  Laundry is folded and mail is ready to go.   Whew.  It feels good.

Drab Monday

It rained all day yesterday and I cheered myself with the fact that you don't have to shovel rain.  Yesterday was a long day, though.  Part of it was due to Daylight Savings Time and the other part was having a night of Parent Conferences.   Now, who the heck thought that one through?  Uff.  It was brutal.  Now, on to the rest of the week.

Snow

Starting Wednesday morning, my town has gotten almost non-stop snowfall.  It's kind of ridiculous since we didn't have much snow all season, until now.  It's like Mother Nature just woke up and said "Oops!  Forgot to give you snow.  Let me catch up."  Then, WHOMP!  "That should do it, well, have a little more."   Oy!  It's like she was trying to pay a late fee or something.
