Makes Me ThinK

I like movies that make me want to learn more about a culture, an event, or a historical figure. Last night, I saw Charlie Wilson's War. It was an excellent movie and piqued my interest in Afghanistan. I want to learn more. I'm nervous, though, because I don't have a source that I trust completely.

What sources do you trust?

Movie of the Day: Charlie Wilson's War.

Read "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson; it's an amazing true story. There's an editorial about Greg in the paper today by Trudy Rubin.

Yes, I agree "Three Cups of Tea" is a worthwhile read. It is mostly about Mortenson's work in Pakistan. I think you would really enjoy it Becca.

Also, "The Kite Runner". Read it - don't see the movie. Okay, to be fair, I haven't seen the movie but after reading it I can not imagine that a movie could do it justice.

I also recently read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by the same author as Kite Runner and also set in Afghanistan. Yes, it is also fiction but offers some insight on the culture and is a compelling story. I gave it to my sister for Christmas.
